My name is Ibukunoluwa Salau, Founder of BOXPLAY.

BOXPLAY is a video-on-demand service which provides millions of movie fans in Africa with unlimited access to rent African and International movies.

My first encounter with the movie industry was when I was a kid; this was before the introduction of Pay TV and VOD services in Nigeria. Every week i would go and rent movies from a video store very close to the house for about ₦100 ($0.28) for a period of 2 days, watching an average of 3 movies per week we spend approximately ₦15,000 ($43)/year on movies.The model was Video store owners would buy 3 disk of a particular movie for about ₦1500 ($4.1), and then rent to about 100 people a year at ₦100/rent, which brings ₦ 10,000/year. Let’s assume the producer sold such a CD at ₦500 to 100 people/year, he will make ₦50,000 .The producer loses ₦48500 from just one shop owner, 200 shop owners across the country will lead to a loss of ₦1.7 million. As for international movies, most people remember the 12-in-1 DVD disk for ₦200 ($0.56).Fast forward to 2018, 6 years later we still have the same problem.

Same ordeal for both local and international movie producers/distributors :

With BOXPLAY, we offer an alternative solution ; same approach, but in a different model.A unique platform with access to rent movie content, anywhere, anytime with: — SD/HD Video, Multi-Device (computer, tablet, Smartphone). Movie rent cost ₦360($1) — ₦750($2), with your first movie on us. Movies on our platform are library and new cinema screened movies, movies are from Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood and other African contents with different categories.

BOXPLAY, our mission is to change the way millions of African watch movies, improve digital distribution model and help Content creators (Studios, Distributors and producers) get financial value for their contents in Africa.
